European fashion has a long and established history of being sleek and stylish. Whether that’s the tailoring in London, the French fashion houses of Paris to the magnificent style in Milan, Europe has many great styles that are flaunted effortlessly across the continent.
In connection with London men’s retailer, The Idle Man, we’ve tabbed five contemporary Euro street-style statements, to inspire your blossoming wardrobe for 2018. Read on for the insider scoop:
Cool La-La: Go Classic for Street Chic
Go classically cool in this head to toe look — perfect for any smart-casual event. The darker palette of colours is a staple for winter outfits and in the colder parts of Europe.
A long overcoat, slim skinny jeans, scarf and a pair of suede desert boots truly define this style that’s as versatile as it is timeless.
“We’d opt for a crisp oxford shirt to go underneath the overcoat and an optional jumper depending on the weather for a formal look,” The Idle Man advised. “The suede desert boots are a staple piece in European street style — they’re extremely versatile meaning you have the opportunity to play around with multiple looks and styles.”
Turn Up The Heat with Sexy Slim Styles
When the heat is on, your style stays “haute.” Breathable clothing is the name of the game when it comes to flaunting spring style. The flannel shirt features a ray of colours that create an elegant look for the modern man.
“What we love most about this outfit (pictured) are the slim-fitted chinos. The cotton material makes it easier to move around in the warmer weather and would go well with a lot of shirts and t-shirts.”
Brown leather loafers are yet another men’s fashion staple in Europe, adding a touch of class to casual outfits as well as working with smarter wear such as suits. To turn this outfit into ultra-casual, swap the shirt for a loose cotton tee or polo to embody a more relaxed style.
The New Work Edit: Denim, Tees & Wallabees
Command the boardroom and own the office by re-defining work-wear. Casually close the deal as you informally introduce what we’re coining as “the work edit.”
Work pants are a necessity in every man’s wardrobe and they’re a great alternative to traditional trousers because of the rich materials, comfortability and free movement opposed to jeans.
“The loose t-shirt and denim jacket is a great combo in the warmer weather,” The Idle Man suggested. “But if you’re blessed with unreliable British weather like we are, we would suggest switching the denim jacket to a bomber jacket or a flight sherpa jacket.
Complete this fit with shoes known as ‘Wallabees’. These are some of the coziest shoes on the market with their comfy interior and thick soles. They’re also very versatile and work with many different colours and styles of outfits.”
To enhance your look, opt for trendy accessories like a watch or a bag — the man-bag we’d add.
All About Accessories
Dressing casually is not rocket science and you shouldn’t spend too much time rummaging through your wardrobe to achieve super stellar street style. With accessories like a warm beanie, a simple watch and a multi-textured backpack — the contrasting colours and textures give the illusion of effort but we know the truth.
“The sand coloured chinos are a nice touch as it allows you to work around different colours on your upper torso like the blue relaxed shirt (pictured) gives way for more movement and a perfect option for when you’re on the go.”
Opt for sneakers with this upgraded take to casual-dressing, as “smart shoes” (dress shoes), throws off the appeal.
Colourfully Cool in Chinos
So yes — we’re back with the “chinos” talk again, but when a trend is hot, it deserves a double take.
Slim-fit chinos are all the rage and can be worn during any season meaning this is an investment piece you’ll want to break the bank for.
Whether sporting loafers or oxford brogues, be sure to rock one staple colour and stick to neutrals for an elegant and modern approach to styling your new Euro-style.
As for the top, a sleek button-up is best, but if you’re feeling a tad risqué, show some skin by unbuttoning the top, but make sure it’s only three buttons down to not look too informal.
