The sixth annual Purses with a Purpose is set to return to Dallas on October 21st, and it’s more than just the designer handbags that has everyone abuzz. The annual handbag auction event, hosted by Transformance, will take place at the Frontiers of Flight Museum and will benefit women’s financial education.
For over 40 years, Transformance (formerly Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Greater Dallas) has provided free, confidential credit and debt counseling in-person or by phone in the Greater Dallas area. With the U.S. experiencing over $1.2 trillion in student loan debt, in addition to other daunting financial statistics, Transformance and its counselors provide a wealth of necessary financial services such as: debt management, housing counseling, financial education, student loan default counseling, bankruptcy counseling, budget and credit counseling. These topics are just the tip of the iceberg, as more than 40 topics surrounding financial capability are offered by Transformance either in-person or via live webinars.
Tickets for the luncheon begin at $100 individually and $1250 for a table. Proceeds from the event underwrite community outreach and financial education classes provided to low-to-moderate income families, especially those headed by women.
The event will be star-studded, with KXAS NBC 5 morning anchor Deborah Ferguson serving as the celebrity emcee and The Real Cost of Living author, Carmen Rita Wong (pictured on the left) as the keynote speaker. In addition to authoring a book, Wong is also a journalist, personal finance contributor on MSNBC, CNN, The View, assistant professor at NYU Polytech, and the co-founder of a financial planning firm.
Since 2010, more than 500 designer handbags have been auctioned through Purses with a Purpose to raise money to empower women with financial education, and this year’s event promises to raise the bar even more. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit our Events Calendar to learn more.
