Fort Bend Memorial Planning Center is releasing the official statement on behalf of the family of George Floyd regarding the memorial and official celebration of his life.
Floyd, a 46-year-old man who was raised in Houstonâs Third Ward, was killed during an encounter with Minneapolis police officers. Findings of an autopsy supported by his family revealed he died from asphyxiation due to neck and back compression after an officer held his knee on his neck for several minutes.
Information on the official services below:
On Monday, June 8, there will be a public memorial at The Fountain of Praise Church located at 13950 Hillcroft Ave. Houston, TX 77085 from 12 p.m – 6 p.m.

The family has selected the Fort Bend Memorial Planning Center after working with the funeral home on multiple occasions. âWe want to make sure the family is taken care of and the services are done properly for Mr. Floyd,â Bobby Swearington, FBMPCâs Owner & CEO, said.
Former professional boxer Floyd Mayweather has confirmed to handle all expenses for the funeral services. Other notable guests who have shown solidarity and support of justice for Floydâs unjust death are expected to be in attendance for the official private memorial services.
Floyd left Houston several years ago for a better life in Minnesota. He played football and attended Jack Yates High School. People across the country have been protesting in support of justice for Floyd. Civil Rights Attorney Benjamin Crump, who is also known for representing Trayvon Martin and Tamir Riceâs family, will represent Floydâs family. He, as well as Floydâs family, has asked those who are participating in the protests to do so peacefully.
