At the Pan-African Connection is not just a film—it’s a call to remember, reclaim, and rebuild. Created by Dallas native and first-time filmmaker Anthony Asota, the documentary examines the state of Black America’s socioeconomic progress through the time of a singular, enduring symbol of community power: Pan-African Connection Bookstore, Art Gallery, and Resource Center in Oak Cliff.

Featured Local Characters:

  • Anthony Asota – Director and Narrator, whose return to Dallas and personal journey of rediscovery shapes the heart of the film
  • Bandele Tyehimba – Founder of the Pan-African Connection, his living legacy continues beyond his untimely death, showcasing his leadership, community upliftment and stalwart commitment to African people
  • Akwete Tyehimba – CEO and co-founder of Pan-African Connection, whose stewardship continues the bookstores mission
  • Leo Hassan – Musician, educator, and community fixture at Pan-African Connection who offers grounding in Black cultural legacy through storytelling and song

The premiere of At the Pan-African Connection will take place on Saturday, May 17, at Angelika Film Center & Cafe in Dallas. Doors open at 5 p.m. with the screening beginning promptly at 6 p.m. Tickets are $10 and can be reserved via Eventbrite here.
