Aquaman was one of the best movies of 2018 and not just because of the great action scenes. Jason Momoa and his perfect beard made the movie what it was and people around the world are loving how he rocks his facial hair.
There was a time when men weren’t even allowed to have beards inside the office — that has certainly changed. Unfortunately, there are plenty of men out there nowadays that think they have Momoa-like facial hair, but really it’s just a poorly groomed beard.
“Attending to a few seemingly small details can mean the difference between a rugged, masculine appearance and a neglectful, lazy one,” said Eli Shaffer, barber of Blind Barber Highland Park in Los Angeles.
According to a May 2017 survey, 51% of responding U.S. consumers reported using hair care products every day. Additionally, a Statista survey showed that 18% of respondents reported using beard care products every day. If you are serious about growing and donning a nice-looking beard, you’re going to have to focus on beard care maintenance.
Here are some great tips for properly taking care of your beard:
- Hydrate — Your face and skin need to remain hydrated in order to be healthy, but so does your beard. “Your daily face moisturizer should be non-comedogenic,” added Shaffer. “This means it won’t clog your pores. And it should have broad-spectrum SPF (in order to protect from dangerous UV rays).”
- Purchase quality beard care products — From beard cream to combs and trimmers, you need to make sure you have plenty of great tools to regularly tend to your beard. Here are some of the best beard combs on the market right now: Kent Handmade comb, Meta-C Portable Buffalo comb, Huskybeard Knuckle comb, The Roosevelts Beard Co. pocket comb, and Striking Biking Folding wood comb. Additionally, here are some of the best beard trimmers on the market: Philips Norelco Multigroom, Remington PG6025, Panasonic Milano All-In-One trimmer, Wahl Stainless Steel trimmer, and the Philips Norelco OneBlade Pro Hybrid.
- Keep it styled — A scraggly beard can actually look nice if it’s intentional, but if you just grow a beard and leave it untouched, it will look bad. In a professional field, no one will take you seriously as the guy who has a scraggly beard — it will just come off as lazy.
How are you taking care of your beard? If you haven’t integrated any of these steps into your beard care routine, it’s time to step it up.
