Since the sad and scary news about COVID-19 broke, the whole world has been in a state of confusion and uncertainty. Many companies and businesses closed doors forcing people to find other means to raise income and survive. People are encouraged to work from home and adopt the use of digital and online platforms for their business. This why having an office space in your home becomes crucial. But how do you ensure that your home office space is productive?

Why a Home Office?

If the current economic circumstances compel you to manage your business from the comfort of your home, having an office space is crucial. This is because, with a home office, you will increase your work rate, productivity, and get the best of your passion. Having a home office also means tapping into different opportunities and online jobs, creating more avenues for raising income.

Before you decide on creating a home office, it is vital to consider several factors. Most importantly, you need space. Most people prefer to move to a larger house with more rooms and spaces, making it easier to create an office. However, 61% of people who have lived in a particular house for more than six years will consider renovating the house to create space than moving to another location. The relevance of the home office you create depends on the space available, as this will also determine your comfort.

Below are the tips to creating a productive home office.

Choose a Room You Can Easily Renovate

The location of your home office is essential. Ensure that the space available or room you choose is easy to renovate and located in the best area. When choosing a location for your home office, ensure it’s separate from the rest of your home. The room you choose should be inherently quiet and allow for concentration on the job. An extra bedroom, attic, backyard cottage, or garage space is ideal for office creation.

If your home space is restrictive for renovation, consider the garage space. This will, however, be beneficial when you have a garage door installed. For homeowners who have installed new garage doors recently, 75% of them believe the decision led to an increase in their home value. If you look to renovate your garage space to a home office, be keen on installing the right flooring and lighting system, as this will bring out the office’s ambiance.

Add Ergonomic and Cozy Furniture

Even a home office deserves the right chairs and furniture. You must put effort into acquiring the right furniture for your home office space. You should reflect your business premise’s office feeling even in your home space. Consider spending on an ergonomic chair, especially if most of the works done in the home office involves spending time on the computer. With an ergonomic chair, you can maintain a good posture and lumbar when working. Look for an expert in office furniture to help you select the right one.

Paint and Decorate with A Neutral Color Scheme in Mind

Colors have psychological effects, and when you paint your home office with the right one, improving your productivity becomes easier. Painting the room a neutral color is best. Then, you can choose accent colors that are bold, energetic, and conducive to your work. Consider other decorations to enhance the ambiance and office feeling in your home. You can add photos, arts, and reminders of your past achievement, such as certificates and accolades.

Make the Space Comfortable

When creating a home office, opt for the right furniture and other elements such as AC units to make it comfortable. You should be able to use your office despite the weather and climatic conditions. For instance, when you install AC in your home office, working productively during the winter and summer seasons becomes possible. It is, however, essential to work with an expert and know exact requirements during AC installation, as most systems need about 20 BTU per square foot of space for effectiveness.

Having a home office allows you to take care of your business needs without the hassle of traveling to and from your workplace. A home office will enable you to save money and time and increase productivity in the process. The above tips are among the many you should consider when creating a home office.
